Reminiscence material:
We are continuing to work with older ones in Residential Homes etc in Norfolk.
Talkabout Books: these taylor-made books are packed with social history images and questions on a range of everyday themes to help the Reminiscence worker in a session. Using the books will be a great aid to a successful session.
The are made with durable paper and have a perspex see-through front sheet to protect the book.
If you would like a copy then visit our sister Site, Reminiscence Resources, they are £12.00 per book. Click here to order.

The use of Triggers in Reminiscence:
A trigger used in reminiscence can be anything that stimulates the senses; whether it is an object, taste, texture, smell sound/music, photograph or even movement.
To find the links referred to below, visit our related Site Reminiscence Resources.
- Music - can be a very effective motivating trigger especially hymns from childhood days which are very often deep-rooted in a person’s memory – try the ‘M’ link for music where I have added very popular hymns from the early 1920/30’s/40’s/50’s. Always begin by singing a few words yourself or reading the words out loud and the person’s reminiscing with you will usually start singing along.
- Photographs – relatives or carers can gather together photographs from areas where the person experiencing memory problems grew up, holidayed, went to school, public photos of wartime themes etc. – try the ‘W’ link for photographs of war memorabilia and try the ‘S’ link for school memorabilia
- Smells – Tin of mansion polish or perhaps a bottle of 4711 perfume. Fresh herbs like parsley and rosemary, lavender, moth balls eucalyptus – try the ‘S’ link for photographs and more ideas
- Tastes – liquorice sweets, lucky bags, sherbet dabs, recipes from the 20’s30’40’s etc – onions and bread with dripping, tripe etc – try the ‘R’ link for recipes and the ‘S’ link for sweets
- Sounds– of the sea, listening to sounds of birds, old fashioned rhythms and rhymes like ‘ring a ring a roses’, ‘oranges and lemons’ – try the ‘S’ link for photographs and more ideas
- Textures – for ladies the feel of lipstick against the skin, the feel of a fur coat, sand, velvet, different types of material and cloth – try the ‘T’ link for more ideas
- Movement – using a typewriter or a scrubbing board, dancing, clapping and tapping etc – try the ‘M’ link for more ideas
As suggested above please use the index A-Z to choose a desired theme and print off photographs, or, purchase a themed small box of triggers to help your reminiscing go well.
I will be constantly adding to the photographs you will be able to download and print so please keep your eye for new additions. Please contact me if you have any particular themes you would like to gain access to, if they are not listed on the website
