My maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Smith, was born in either East Winch or Grimston Norfolk in 1878/9.
Her parents, in the 1891 census, were Claxton Smith, a wheelright/ carpenter age 40, born 1851 and Alice age 38, b. 1853 (do not know her maiden name)They were married in 1876 in Freebridge Lynn Norfolk. Elizabeth was 13 at the time of the census. There were no other members of the household.
Elizabeth married my grandfather Francis Edward Upton Robins, a brewer in Southampton in 1904. Claxton died in Grimston in 1897.On Elizabeth's marriage certificate Claxton is described as a timber merchant,deceased.
If anyone knows anything about this family I would be grateful to hear from them.I would like to find out the maiden name of Alice Smith and why Claxton died.
