An agreement was made (in 1902) between Electromotors Ltd of Openshaw and Laurence Scott in Norwich whereby neither would be in competition to sell machines under or over 15 HP - LS was to sell the larger machines whilst Electromotors sold the small machines. They were instead, to buy from each other.
The agreement lapsed when LS realised they could make the machines more cheaply than buying from Electromotors Ltd
1929 saw the takeover of Electromotors Ltd by Laurence Scott & Company Ltd and the new Company Laurence Scott & Electromotors Ltd was formed!
In 1937 there was a serious fire at the Openshaw Works. Many antique records were destroyed and it became necessary to replace the office accommodation. The large Electromotors sign perished in the fire.
In 1959, JB Wormhall and his team of salesmen moved down to Norwich, from Manchester. This year, the Blantyre Works was established as a branch of the Manchester Works.
In 1969 Manchester and Norwich were linked by a computer system which was used to transfer the payroll to Norwich. This was probably a first in the country for such a system.
1980 saw Mining Supplies of Doncaster become LSE's parent Company and the Manchester Works were shut down.
There is much more to this story and we would be most grateful to receive any additional background, photos, personal recollections.
