Employed for 30 years - June 1962 till June 1992. Can remember the Fire at 5 Prince of wales Rd, coming of the Computor and the Inchcape takeover. Started with Jack webster and Harry Mills in the stores, moved to accounts working with Fred Rope and Derek Burton. Moved into Sales Ledger and worked with Basil Tebble, Richard Gou;lding and Keith Clarke. Did accounts for Fakenham, Lowestoft and London York Way branches and then Car Sales accounts and Insurance job invoicing when the Computor took over. We were Head Office in them days and did accounts for every branch there was. About 50 of them. One account per customer who could get anything from any branch, have one account, pay one cheque each month. Then it all altered. Branches disposed of and self accounting came back at the branches. I think we were happy to get out of it |
Mann Egerton12th March 2007 |
I was reading your history of Mann Egerton. It states that the company stopped attending the London Motor Show and ceased coach building in 1939. My father was involved in the production of military vehicles during the war and in the manufacture of coaches and buses after the war. I remember, as a young child, visiting the works and also travelling to London for the motor show at Earl's Court. This was before we moved away from Norwich in 1955 when I was seven.
