- 1814: Henry Chamberlin came to Norwich this year - from Edinburgh.
- 1815: On the corner of Dove Street and Guildhall Hill he commenced trading as a Department Store proprietor.
- 1823: His son, Robert joined Henry in the business and they then started trading as Chamberlins Sons and Company.
- 1848: Robert becomes Sheriff.
- 1854: Robert is elected Mayor.
- 1856: Robert is elected Mayor.
- 1870: Robert is elected Mayor.
- 1900 circa: About this time, the Department Store is described as covering an area of 42,057 square feet and one side covered nearly the full length of Dove Street. The interior was very rich in design and features. Departments at that time included, a Millinery Department, Ladies Underwear Department, Carpet and Furnishing Department, Dress Department (employing 120 workers), Refreshment Room etc.
- 1914: At this time, the business was located in Botolph Street. The Store was requested to join the War Effort and immediately converted to the production of such items as Pegamoid waterproof clothing, East Coast oilskin waterproof material and clothing for the GPO and Government concerns. Suits for discharged soldiers and ordinary clothing was also provided.
- 1935: The Store had changed and was modernised, giving the shopper more and more selection of goods for the home.
- 1950 circa: The business was taken over by Marshall and Snelgroves.
