The Elizabeth Simpson
This photo is dated around 1959.

The photo of the Life boat Elizabeth Simpson, in which my grandfather served from the day she was launched in the river Yare on October 23rd. 1889, until his death in 1934. The donor, through a Norwich solicitor, sent a cheque for 500 pounds & remained anonymous until just prior to the launch, then turned out to be (Miss Elizabeth Simpson Stone) unfortunately Miss Stone was unable to attend the ceremony, but the following day she was able to view the vessel when the new Lifeboat was taken up river to Norwich in tow by the steam tug Star. This photo was given to me by Stephen Brewster Daniels, who was one of the last crew members to serve on her. Stephen has written books on the lifeboats & although now very frail, still continues with his research.
I called to see Stephen last year with Nick , they are old friends. I have a signed copy of his book (The Gorleston Volunteer Lifeboat Elizabeth Simpson) The last photo shows the Haisbro Lifeboat coming ashore in 1902. Note the horse in harness, plus the holiday makers & locals preparing to give a hand to pull her up the beach. The picture is as clear as if it were taken only yesterday.
